Degrees of Love
...
I am sure that every man at least once in his life had to answer the question:
"Darling, do you love me?"
Thus, as I heard such questions, I constantly answered:
"Of course, my dear."
"How much do you love me?"
And here you begin to wonder how to answer, thinking maybe "very-very much," or something like, "immensely."
But, one day, when my wife was watching one of her usual brainless romance TV series, and I was trying to solve a crossword, she suddenly said:
"Look, what a strong love they have there!" - and sighed. It was then that I thought: "And what is "strong love"?
And, in general, how this love can be divided into degrees and gradients?
For instance, I understand that someone may love coffee more than tea. Or, I may love meat more than fish. But, ladies and gentlemen, how can you love a person today more than you did yesterday, and tomorrow more than today?
I do not know about you, but I concluded that: love can not have any degrees, stages or gradations. It simply exists or not. And if you try to understand: how, or for what reason you love, it is not love at all, but some kind of arithmetic problem.
