My Last Time Down Summit - Michael Natt

Free chapter·Duration 1 mins·by121 Words

Running my race year after year
Brought me fulfillment, fitness and cheer.

Up at daybreak and out the door,
Putting in miles while many still snore.
Step after step, millions by now;
A smile on my face and sweat on my brow.

Training through summer, enduring the heat;
Loving the discipline and structure. So sweet

Tree-lined streets of St. Paul;
Ten miles not twenty-six, so I won’t hit the wall.

No pressure, no timing in a virtual race;
No need to compete or push the pace.

No crowds to applaud as I approach the finish line;
Only my family’s warm embrace. So sublime!

Last time down Summit Avenue, State Capital’s in view;
After thirty-one years of racing, I bid you adieu.
