A woman wants a little child, and when she goes to a witch that's exactly what she gets. Thumbelina is borne of a kernel of barley-corn. Thumbelina lives with the woman who wished for her, with tiny possessions befitting her size. She is pretty and sings beautifully. But one night an ugly old toad steals into the home and sees in Thumbelina a bride for her even uglier son. (Who can only croak, though the mom can speak.) She snatches Thumbelina away from the only home she's known. Thumbelina is held captive on a lily pad in a marsh until some fish - who understand her plight - sever the lily pad, allowing it to float away. Thumbelina's praises are sung by the birds she passes, and she's befriended by a butterfly as she sails downriver on her lily pad boat.

Collection of short stories inspired by some of my dreams. Well, at least I hope they are just dreams... Κάποιες φορές, προσπαθείς απεγνωσμένα να ξεχωρίσεις τι είναι όνειρο και τι πραγματικότητα. Και κάποιες άλλες φορές, ευχεσαι να μην μάθεις ποτέ.

Persuasion is the last novel fully completed by Jane Austen during her own life. It was published posthumously in 1818, one year after her death. It is a story concerning the courtship and marriage of a young woman, Anne Elliot, being raised by a widowed father while under the persuasive influence of an aristocratic friend and neighbor of the family. Austen completed the novel before commencing upon another new novel titled Sanditon of which she completed only the initial opening chapters. Persuasion illustrates a central theme which reflects upon the largely ill-effects exerted upon Anne Elliot when she was young and impressionable, and still excessively sensitive to the advice of others.

"The Princess and the Pea" (Danish: "Prinsessen paa Ærten"; literal translation: "The Princess on the Pea") is a literary fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen about a young woman whose royal identity is established by a test of her physical sensitivity. The tale was first published with three others by Andersen in an inexpensive booklet on 8 May 1835 in Copenhagen by C. A. Reitzel. Andersen had heard the story as a child, and it likely has its source in folk material, possibly originating from Sweden, as it is unknown in the Danish oral tradition. Neither "The Princess and the Pea" nor Andersen's other tales of 1835 were well received by Danish critics, who disliked their casual, chatty style and their lack of morals. In 1959 "The Princess and the Pea" was adapted to the musical stage in a production called Once Upon a Mattress starring Carol Burnett.

A Tale of Two Cities (1859) is a novel by Charles Dickens, set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. The novel depicts the plight of the French peasantry demoralized by the French aristocracy in the years leading up to the revolution, the corresponding brutality demonstrated by the revolutionaries toward the former aristocrats in the early years of the revolution, and many unflattering social parallels with life in London during the same period.
